Sugar Brosius

I missed a birthday last week! But, this is perfect, because her birthday is Friday, November 12th. So, a very special birthday greeting to Georgette Shoji. I wish for you everything good in life!

We just came back from Costco. We thought we should fill our cupboards before the storm hits. We love our drives up there, and the icing upon the cake is lunch at Bowpickers in Astoria. I sure hope our electricity stays on through the on-coming storm.

There will be a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25th. Unfortunately, (you would think that we would have gotten used to this by now), you will not be able to gather as a group again this year. It will be a ‘Take-Out' dinner. Your meal can be picked up at St. Mary's by the Sea Dining Hall beginning at 1pm. (I will remind you about this next week too.) Reservations are required. They will assign you a time to pick up your meal. Call Teri Bruneau at 503 317 8967 to reserve a time for a meal pick up. These wonderful Meals for Seniors folks will also be delivering to Seniors who can't come by to pick up their own meal. Reservations must be made by November 20th, so make that call as soon as possible. You will enjoy ham, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, cranberry sauce, veggies and dessert. Three cheers for the Meals for Seniors folks. This is pretty awesome.

Let me tell you about the Rockaway Lions Club Thanksgiving Food Basket Program. They ask that each family that received a Thanksgiving Basket in the past send in a new application yearly. If you need their help, the application must be received no later than Saturday, November 13, 2021. The applications must be early because they only have so many baskets to give out. If your application is late, it may not be honored because the produce and goods must be ordered, received and processed before the pick up date. This year the pick up date is Monday, November 22 between 9:30 and 11:00am. It is your responsibility to pick up your food basket or have someone pick them up. Pick up will be at 286 S. Anchor St. (right behind the city hall.) Be sure to put your pickup date and time on the calendar. All applications will be checked to prevent duplication of request to other agencies. You will be notified by phone if you are accepted. You can pick up your applications at the Lions Club.

The Annual (Well, almost annual) Lighting of Christmas Tree is coming too! It will be the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26th. You will enjoy Christmas music, hot chocolate and cookies, a train, Santa Claus and a tree lighting! Do I have your interest yet?

The 'Santa Express' will be making a trip to our community starting in Garibaldi. The Rockaway Beach Merchants are decorating one of the passenger cars, which is exciting. The train will depart Garibaldi at 5:30 and arrive in Rockaway Beach at 6pm. After all of the folks are off of the train, we will have at tree lighting at 6:30. Santa will be there and a mailbox where letters to Santa can be left too. Cookies and cocoa will be served. (Or is that hot chocolate? Hmmm...)

I will let you know about the Rockaway Lions Christmas Baskets after we have enjoyed Thanksgiving. It, too, is a very cool Lions community service.

Riverbend Players are busy again. The North County Recreation District Performing Arts Center is the location of their latest play, Steel Magnolias. The dates are November 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th at 7pm and November 7th and 14th at 1pm. You can pick up tickets at the door before the performance or purchase them online at https://protectus.mimecast.com/s/ NhUCQWO9DH3ABmwCKXxIL. Wow, I would buy my tickets at the door. That is way too much typing.... Giggle. Masks and proof of vaccination are required.

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” Happy birthday Georgette! That's Rockaway Beach, “Sugar Coated!”
