Two people were treated at hospitals after escaping a late-night house fire in Barview, north of Garibaldi.

According to a report from Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, at 2:20 a.m. on May 24 Tillamook 911 received a call about the two-story residential fire near the intersection of Cedar Street and Lakeside Drive.

Garibaldi Fire and Rescue was the first to arrive at the scene, finding the home’s upper floor ablaze and requesting a second alarm. Bay City Fire Department and Rockaway Beach Volunteer Fire Department both responded to assist.

Firefighters reported two occupants, a man and woman, were found outside the house suffering from smoke inhalation, burns, and cuts. Two ambulances from Adventist Health arrived and an air ambulance from Life Flight was requested.

Both people were treated at the scene, then one was taken to Tillamook Adventist Health Hospital to meet the Life Flight helicopter while the second patient was taken to Tillamook Airport and flown by a Life Flight fixed-wing aircraft. Both people were taken Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

The two subjects were visiting from the Salem area and staying in a relative’s second home, according to the sheriff’s office report. The relative reportedly lives nearby.

The fire is under investigation.
