Traffic was stalled and power lines were down in the Manzanita area after trees fell.
According to Nehalem Bay Fire and Rescue’s spokesperson, Highway 101 in North Tillamook County was blocked to through traffic around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. Travel was stopped from the Manzanita Junction to the Shell station due to a tree that knocked down power lines.
Emergency crews responded along with crews from Tillamook People’s Utility District (PUD). A semi driver and passenger were reportedly trapped and awaiting the power to be shut off. When the tree took out the power pole, the power lines fell across the road and on the semi truck, trapping the passengers.
A PUD spokesperson said a few trees came down and blocked the highway, breaking one power pole and taking down around seven spans of wire. More than 1,800 lost power initially, but PUD crews did some switching to quickly restore service for all but 36 customers who had to wait a bit longer.
The PUD crews were out working for around eight hours to fully restore power. The downed pole and transformer were replaced and the spans of wire were repaired
