Elk shot, left to waste; police seek assistance


Three cow elk were shot and left to waste in Tillamook County, according to a statement from Oregon State Police (OSP). The OSP Fish and Wildlife Division requested the public’s assistance in identifying the responsible party.

On Jan. 12, OSP Fish and Wildlife troopers from the Tillamook and Newport offices were called in to investigate three cow elk that were reportedly shot and killed with a high-caliber rifle. The elk were left to waste in a clear-cut approximately 2.5 miles from Highway 6 on Fox Creek Road.

Troopers were able to gather evidence from the scene, according to the statement from OSP.

OSP also asked for the public’s help to identify who shot and wasted a 5-point bull elk in Lincoln County.

On Jan. 8, OSP Fish and Wildlife Troopers were notified by a landowner of a dead bull elk found left to waste near Hidden Valley Road in Toledo. A statement from OSP said the elk was shot and killed by a high-powered rifle.
