Douglas Robert Lee

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Robert Lee announces his passing on Sunday October 28, 2018.
Doug was born in Manitoba, Canada on April 14, 1950. He attended University of Manitoba and received a Bachelors in Agriculture, Food Science and went on to complete his Masters of Business Administration at University of British Columbia. Doug worked as the Human Resources Manager at Tillamook Country Smoker for nearly 30 years.
In 2016 Doug retired to his farm where he continued to raise his pastured meats including his highly acclaimed turkeys. He was also involved with the local farmers markets for several years. Doug was a life-long learner, who following his retirement continued to study permaculture farming techniques and completed his permaculture certification with a mapped plan for his OK Ranch. He enjoyed the egg hatching and raising of his flock of heritage birds, and marketing his Thanksgiving turkeys. Everyone who knew him will remember Doug for his tasteful quick wit, caring nature and warm smile. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather (Opah).
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife, of 45 years, Mary; children Mary & Jeremy Spelbring, Christina & Adam Haynes, Rebeccah & Brent Bjorn and Benjamin & Jena Lee; grandchildren Collin, Logan, and Dalilah Spelbring, future grandchild Haynes, Kristoffer, Mikaela, Maija Bjorn. His sister Carolyne Nickel of Manitoba, Canada. He will also be missed by his large extended family and many friends. He joins his granddaughter Kirsten Alexandria Bjorn who passed away in April of this year.
A memorial service, a celebration of his life, will be held at the Old Mill Marina, in Garibaldi, at 1:30 pm on Saturday January 5th 2019. In honor of Doug’s sweet tooth a light dessert and coffee will be served.
