Visiting Blue Jays sweep Lady Pirates in volleyball opener

Jewell made the long trip to Rockaway Beach to start their volleyball season and they went home happy with a 3-0 sweep of the Neah-Kah-Nie Lady Pirates.

The Lady Blue Jays won the opener by a 25-17 margin, then followed that with a 25-7 win that gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Jays snatched their first win of the season with a 25-11 victory in the third game.

The loss drops the Lady Pirates to 0-1, with a trip to play Riverdale Thursday.

The Pirates will get another chance to log a home victory on Tuesday when City Christian opens league play for both teams in Rockaway Beach. The game is slated to start at 6:30 p.m.

Riverdale lost a 2-0 decision in the Columbia Christian tournament to Horizon Christian/Tualatin.
The Pirates will also host rival Nestucca next Thursday (Sept. 6) before going on the road again.
