History of Surfing on the North Oregon Coast

This is your chance to discover more about surfing on the beautiful northern Oregon coast, presented by Dan Matthews, a surfer, shaper and educator.

The Nehalem Valley Historical Society

The presentation takes place at the Pine Grove Community Center at 225 Laneda Avenue in Manzanita on Saturday, July 21, at 3:00 p.m. Admission is free. Sponsors for this event are San Dune Pub and Bahama Mama’s in Manzanita.

Dan began surfing on the Oregon coast in 1964. By 1967 Dan had shaped and glassed his first surfboard. In 1968 he started Tillamook Head Surfboards on a small farm in the Nehalem Valley with three other surfers and by 1970 the shop moved to Seaside. Dan still shapes boards today. During the program, he will show pictures, photos and talk about surfing on the northern Oregon coast from its beginnings in the 1960s and 1970s.

Please note that July 21st is “Surfer’s Saturday” in Manzanita and the Ultronz are playing at the San Dune Pub that evening.
