NKN to join the Knights of the Round Table

The Missoula Children’s Theater has finally made its way into Tillamook County. It has been the goal of Neah-Kah-Nie School District Superintendent Paul Erlebach for many years and has finally come to fruition.

“My kids participated in the Missoula Children’s Theater years ago and I’ve always wanted to bring it to this area,” Erlebach said.

According to Erlebach, the Neah-Kah-Nie School District has been talking about getting the Missoula Theater to the area for years and has been working together with community partners in order to make it happen. With the help of The Mudd Nick Foundation and North County Recreation District (NCRD), it is now possible.

The theater group has organized a theater camp for kids in the Neah-Kah-Nie District, grades one-12. The camp will begin with tryouts on Monday June 18, with rehearsals to follow. The camp will get the kids prepared for two performances of “King Arthur’s Quest” on Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23.

So far, more than 60 Neah-Kah-Nie students of all ages have signed up for the camp. Erlebach and the Neah-Kah-Nie School District have made a concerted effort to get the word out to its students.

“We’ve been sending out flyers, our secretaries have been talking with parents and we’ve put it all over Facebook trying to get the word out there,” Erlebach said. “It looks like we’ll have a wide range of students participating.”

The camp is – of course – highlighted by the musical, which features the legend of King Arthur and his quest through Medieval England. The musical displays classic Camelot characters such as Arthur, Guinevere, Merlin, Taleisin, The Raven and Lancelot. It is a self-proclaimed original twist on a familiar story full of surprises.

Erlebach and the rest of the Neah-Kah-Nie School District said they are excited for this opportunity and grateful to have the Missoula Children’s Theater in Tillamook County.

“They have a long standing reputation and always have it so well organized,” Erlebach said. “We don’t have a theater department at Neah-Kah-Nie, so I think this is a great way to get students involved.”

“King Arthur’s Quest” featuring Neah-Kah-Nie School District students performs 7 p.m. June 22-23 at NCRD, 36155 Ninth St. in Nehalem. Free admission. For more information, call 855-444-6273.
