Knappa stays ahead of NWL rivals, sweeps Neah-Kah-Nie

Knappa is the defending state baseball champion.

Knappa is the defending Northwest League champion.

That makes the Knappa Loggers not only the team to beat, according to Neah-Kah-Nie baseball coach Rob Herder.

It also makes Knappa the proverbial yardstick that success or improvement can be judged by.

If that is the case, then the Pirates continue to close the gap with the Loggers.

But it wasn’t enough to keep the Loggers from sweeping up three wins against the Pirates again.

In the first game of a doubleheader it showed just how improved the Pirates had become.

They played the Loggers to a tie through six innings Friday, but the Loggers scored a 4-3 win. Knappa won Game 2 by a 10-1 margin. The Pirates lost the first game by a 9-2 score April 18.

With the sweep, Knappa improved to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in league (93-3 over the last five years).

Neah-Kah-Nie plays a doubleheader at Gaston Friday and visits Vernonia May 1.
