Lady Pirates sink Gaston in NWL finale


Neah-Kah-Nie’s Esmerelda Ramirez is fouled in the final moments of the Pirates’ victory over the visiting Greyhounds Feb. 8.

 

The Neah-Kah-Nie’s Lady Pirates defeated Gaston Feb.8 by a narrow 32-28 margin in the regular season finale for both teams.
The win also finished the league season with a 7-7 record and in fourth place.
The Pirates came from behind to outscore the visiting Lady Greyhounds in the final three quarters to claim the win.
Maddie Lambert led the Pirates with 14 points, while Esmerelda Ramirez added seven.
The Pirates closed out the regular league schedule with a three-game winning streak – all by close margins.
After dropping a close 36-28 decision to fifth-ranked Faith Bible on Feb 1, the Pirates began the winning streak with a three-point win over Columbia Christian (33-30).
In two straight home games, the Pirates followed that win with victories over Nestucca and Gaston.
It was another narrow three-point win when the Pirates edged the Lady Cats (39-36).
Neah-Kah-Nie moved into a tie for fourth place in the Northwest League with the win over Nestucca.
