Bobcats earn rematch with Pirates tonight

Neah-Kah-Nie’s Josh Elinsky tries to score in spite of a foul when the Pirates edged Gaston.

The Nestucca Bobcats will be making the trip north from Cloverdale tonight for the Northwest League playoff battle at 7:30 p.m.
It will be the third time this season that the two teams have met.
But the Pirates will have to make it a third win in order to move on in the league playoffs.
Nestucca had to come from behind to end Gaston’s season with a 50-40 loss Tuesday in Cloverdale. That ended the Greyhounds’ season with an 11-14 season record after finishing league play with a 7-11 mark in sixth place.
Nestucca improved its record to 13-12 for the season with the playoff win.
The rematch will give the Bobcats a third chance to knock off the Pirates, after losing by seven points when the two met in Cloverdale by a 58-51 margin in January.
The two NWL rivals met again Feb. 8, with the Pirates escaping with a narrow 48-46 win in Rockaway Beach.
The third time will be the final time for one of the teams, with only the victor surviving to play again.

Lady Loggers return to Rockaway
The Lady Pirates will be facing the Knappa Loggers in the 6 p.m. playoff contest Thursday at Neah-Kah-Nie High School.
After finishing the regular season in fourth place with a 7-7 record, the Lady Pirates had to wait for the Knappa Loggers (3-11) to visit Gaston (6-8) Monday.
The Loggers upset Gaston by one point (33-32) to get a rematch with the Lady Pirates.
The Pirates beat Knappa twice in January – once by a 57-37 margin and a second time by a 32-19 score.
Knappa is on a two-game winning streak.
