OCSR acquires historic engine and passenger cars

The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad (OCSR) recently received two additional passenger cars and one historic engine to add to their collection of authentic trains for locals and visitors to enjoy.

After years of being stored in Yreka, Calif. the two train cars made their way up to the Port of Tillamook Bay and are slated for the restoration process to eventually join the rest of the trains at OCSR’s headquarters in Garibaldi.
“After this we’ll have a complete matching train set,” said Jessica Jung, OCSR General Manager. “With a matching color theme, the trains will bring a premier quality to the scenic rail destination of Garibaldi and Tillamook Bay.”
In addition to the two new passenger cars the organization has also been the recipient of a fully restored authentic steam engine, the Polson Lumber No. 2, which was loaded via large low-boy trailer and trucked all the way from Wisconsin.
With more than just train engines and cars in the works for OCSR there are a wide variety of offerings and happenings taking place with the 501c3 organization starting this fall season and extending through the winter.
OCSR recently finished up their signature Fall Splendor excursion, which brought visitors from the downtown Wheeler station all the way up through Foss and Batterson logging camps, far up the Nehalem River – enabling a unique viewing of the Nehalem River and the fantastic fall colors that dot the mountain areas of Tillamook County this time of year.
Starting in late November and continuing into December, OCSR will also be offering their annual Candy Cane Express excursion, which allows kids a chance at a one of a kind experience of meeting Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus while enjoying cookies and hot cocoa with an ambience of holiday lights, music and the smell of candy canes filling the air.
