SILETZ TRIBAL CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION FUND ASSISTS SENIORS

The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund is assisting senior citizens in north Tillamook County through a $3,500 grant to purchase much needed kitchen equipment for Meals For Seniors, Inc. The grant award was to replace a broken, 25 year-old commercial food mixer and other much needed kitchen equipment.

Meals For Seniors, Inc. is a 14 year old non-profit organization providing hot, freshly cooked and nutritious meals to senior citizens in north Tillamook County from Manzanita to Tillamook. In 2016 the non-profit served 12,348 meals to senior citizens. Of these 6,111 were served three times a week on site at rented facilities at St. Mary’s By The Sea Church in Rockaway Beach and another 6,237meals were delivered to seniors from several communities who are unable to leave their homes. The organization is managed and operated by a group of strong and dedicated volunteers who contributed 7,239 hours in 2016. All program revenues are through donations or grants.

Robert Dempster, Chairman of the Board of MFS stated, “We very much appreciate the strong support of the Siletz Tribe in meeting a serious need we had. Since all of our meals are freshly prepared and cooked, and without the use of a functioning commercial mixer our food preparation was taking way too long; leaving us vulnerable to not being able to serve our meals on time.”

Seniors from throughout the county are welcome and encouraged to come for lunch every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11:30 am at St. Mary’s By The Sea Church dining hall at 279 S. Pacific St. Rockaway Beach, OR 97136. If seniors are unable to attend and in need of food to be delivered, please call MFS Board Chairman, Robert Dempster at 503-812-2073.
