Cannon Beach Chorus presents ‘Christmas in Many Lands’

The Cannon Beach Chorus, under the direction of Dr. John Buehler, will present seasonal concerts entitled Christmas In Many Lands, featuring pieces from various countries worldwide.

The 60-voice chorus is set to perform the major work Gloria by British composer/arranger, John Rutter, along with three carols from Venezuela; a Nigerian Christmas song entitled Betelehemu; the French carol, Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella; two Spanish Christmas songs, A La Nanita Nana and Esta Noche; Franz Grüber’s Stille Nacht; a John Rutter arrangement of We Wish You A Merry Christmas, and the ever-popular Peace, Peace.

chrous2011 The chorus has rehearsed every Monday evening from 6:30-8:30 beginning in September and will present three separate concerts in area communities this year.

The first performance will be in Warrenton at the Christian Church, 1376 SE Anchor Ave. at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016.

Their second appearance will occur in Nehalem at the North Coast Recreation District Building on east 9th street on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. The entire proceeds of the Nehalem concert will be donated to the Manzanita Tornado Clean-Up Fund.

Their final concert will be presented in Cannon Beach at the Community Church, 132 E. Washington on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

At each concert the chorus members host an intermission reception at which audience members may interact with the performers while enjoying homemade Christmas treats. Ticket price for each concert is $10 with students under the age of 16 admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 503-436-0378.

The chorus membership is comprised of individual singers from Ocean Park, WA to Tillamook and Forest Grove, OR and includes the communities of Astoria, Warrenton, Gearhart, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Nehalem, Wheeler, Rockaway Beach, and Bay City.

The chorus awards annually a vocal scholarship to students continuing to sing at the collegiate level and is a music education advocate for the high school choral programs in the area. Following the December concerts, the chorus will have a few weeks of rest before resuming rehearsals after the first of the year on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.
