John and Alice Dillard were the founders of the Nehalem Tel and Tel Phone Company (currently Rural Telephone) and were hard working, salt of the earth, pioneers in the community who firmly believed in the power of education. So much so, they set up a trust fund account that stipulated, upon their passing on, that the funds would be distributed for education.
Since 2002, the Board of Trustees has served the students of the Neah-Kah-Nie school district by distributing interest funds, in the form of scholarships, annually.
The Board is proud to say that, thus far, they have given out over $95,000 to deserving students.
John and Alice would be delighted to see how their gift has grown and impacted so many.
The 2016 Neah-Kah-Nie winners of the John and Alice Dillard Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $1,500 each, are:
Garit Champ, who will be attending Oregon State this fall, majoring in Engineering and Jenna Henderson, who will be attending George Fox, also starting this fall, and majoring in Education.
Garit and Jenna were chosen for their scholastic achievements, community service, leadership skills and future goals.
The Board wishes to thank all who applied and looks forward to supporting others in the future.
