The Winery at Manzanita: Opening 2016!

Imagine sun soaked days at the beach, locally roasted coffee in the morning, wine tasting in the afternoon and evenings around the firepit, sipping handcrafted wine and making S’mores…this is The Winery at Manzanita Experience!

In the morning pastries and breakfast sandwiches will be offered to pair with your local coffee or tea.

To accompany the wines in the afternoon and evening, picnic lunches are served to-go, hand packed burgers, brats, sausages, hot dogs and paninis at lunch and dinner.  DIY S’mores kits are available to be assembled over the fire pits.

Families, wine aficionados and their dogs are all welcome.

Winery

History

Established in 2015.

Mark Proden, owner and winemaker, founded Bodhichitta Winery in 2008 while attending wine school, making small batches of wine (10-100 cases at a time) by hand in Salem, Oregon.  He became interested in wine during his 11 years in the Air Force as a pilot and engineer, visiting Napa and Sonoma and eventually Oregon as Pinot noir grew in popularity here.

He had been making his wines in a small space in Salem, Oregon, and began looking for a new building, a location inspired by nature, that would allow for increased production while maintaining high quality.  Manzanita came to mind, as Mark had made many trips there with his black lab Pinot, mainly for its long, dog-friendly, lease-free beach and awe-inspiring sunsets.

Meet the Business Owner

The owner and winemaker, runs Island Mana Wines and its sister winery, Bodhichitta in Oregon. Mark spent 11 years in the Air Force as a pilot and engineer before beginning his career in winemaking. He started as a home winemaker and then attended the Northwest Viticulture Center in Salem, Oregon, for courses in enology and viticulture.

While in school, he worked for a number of local wineries, in their tasting room and during crush (harvest), while doing his own winemaking for Bodhichitta and the school as well.

After wine school, he moved to Hawaii, started to experiment with dry, food-friendly, tropical wines and created the Island Mana Wines label with a tasting room in Waikiki across from the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  islandmanawines.com
