Pirates make big impression at state wrestling championships

The Pirates came up with a big finish Saturday, grabbing a pair of third place finishes in the final two weights to place 11th in the state 2A/1A wrestling championships at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum.
Literally.
Freshman Tristan Bennett was the first, coming back in the consolation bracket to claim third place by fall (:45) over Samuel Williams of Crane in the 220-pound competition.

The victory gave the Pirate a 43-4 record for the season in his first season of high school wrestling.
The Pirates picked up another third with Anthony Ramirez in the 285-pound competition. Ramirez won by fall (4:38) over Brendon Johnson of Gilchrist.
The tandem of thirds helped Neah-Kah-Nie defeat rival Nestucca in the final team scores.
