NCRD scholarships ensure programs remain affordable

Making the recreations district’s programs available and affordable for all residents is an important goal.
Since 2008, Friends of NCRD have contributed $6,800 raised for scholarships in an effort to ensure no one is denied the benefits of recreation activities due to the inability to pay. Programs carry registration fees to help offset the funding to provide the service. Recreation promotes physical, mental and social well-being, but some residents do not have the resources to access these activities.
Friends of NCRD ask you to consider a donation this season to the Healthy Moves scholarship fund. A donation of $25 can provide a school week of afternoon activities for a child in a safe environment, or a student pass for a youth to use the fitness center. $40 helps sponsor a month’s pass for use in the pool or fitness center.  A $60 donation  could aid an older adult in use of the pool and the fitness center for a month.  Or $65 covers the fee of a 12 week arthritis exercise class. NCRD currently is providing 10 scholarships for their aqua therapy sessions and arthritis classes serving folks with chronic diseases including diabetes, Parkinson’s, obesity, and social anxiety. “ These scholarships have changed lives,” says Barbara McCann, pool instructor. They have benefited by gaining increased mobility, and strength, have better control of their weight, and have greater opportunities for socialization. It’s also important to note that those registered for classes at the recreation center are eligible for bus passes at no cost. This greatly helps those who are without their own transportation, giving them a greater sense of independence.
Recreation programs serve as settings in which friendships bloom, families thrive, and wholesome connections and community pride are forged.
Please consider making a tax deductible donation and 100 percent of your contribution will go directly to support scholarships.
