…COLDEST WEATHER SO FAR THIS SEASON TO ARRIVE BY TUESDAY AND CONTINUE INTO THE THANKSGIVING WEEKEND…

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT COLD SNAP OF THE SEASON IS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY. THE COLD AIR WILL ARRIVE BEHIND A SHARP COLD FRONT WHICH IS EXPECTED TO MOVE ACROSS SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON MONDAY AFTERNOON AND NORTHWEST OREGON MONDAY EVENING.

BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO LINGER WELL INTO THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

SNOW LEVELS WILL START OFF BETWEEN 4000 AND 5000 FEET AHEAD OF THE FRONT MONDAY…THEN PLUMMET TO AROUND 1500 FEET AS SHOWERS CONTINUE IN THE COLD AIR BEHIND THE FRONT MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY. THIS IS LOW ENOUGH TO AFFECT SOME COAST RANGE PASSES AS WELL AS THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS.

WHILE SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL VARY…EARLY THANKSGIVING TRAVELERS PLANNING A TRIP ACROSS THE COAST RANGE OR INTO THE CASCADES SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR WINTER TRAVEL CONDITIONS. ACCUMULATING SNOW COULD ALSO AFFECT PORTIONS OF INTERSTATE 5 SOUTH OF EUGENE TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT.

SHOWERS WILL TAPER OFF TUESDAY NIGHT AS COLD HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO FALL QUICKLY TUESDAY NIGHT…POSSIBLY CAUSING ICY CONDITIONS FOR ALL ELEVATIONS ACROSS SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON.

COLD AND BLUSTERY WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO FOLLOW…CONTINUING WELL INTO THE THANKSGIVING WEEKEND. TEMPERATURES MAY STRUGGLE TO RISE ABOVE 40 DEGREES FOR THE LOWLANDS…WITH WIND CHILLS DIPPING INTO THE TEENS AND 20S FOR MANY. EAST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME STRONG THROUGH THE COLUMBIA GORGE…WITH GUSTY WINDS POSSIBLY AFFECTING THE PORTLAND METRO AREA BY THANKSGIVING DAY AND CONTINUING FOR A GOOD PORTION OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND.
