After a year-long battle with melanoma, Paul Owens (Delmer Paul Owens Jr.) of Nehalem passed away on July 5, 2015.
Paul was born in Santa Barbara, California, and moved to the North Oregon Coast with his parents, Paul and Florence Owens when he was eight years old. He graduated from Neah-Kah-Nie High School in 1961, and married the love of his life, Betty in 1962. They enjoyed 53 years together. The most important things in Paul’s life were his wife, children and family. He loved the outdoors and always declared that he lived in the best place on earth. He was an avid hunter and clam digger. He worked for 33 years for Nehalem Telephone (RTI/Nehalem Telecom). He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Laura Swanson, husband Rich, and son Jeff Owens, wife Sue. He adored his grandchildren – Bryan and Stephen Owens, Kei Jager and husband Chris, and Kalli Swanson, and his five great-grandchildren, Micah, Tommy, Abbie and Elizabeth Jager, and Hunter Owens. Remembrances and donations in Paul’s name can be sent to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation/Tillamook Chapter (mailing address c/o Mechtronics, 4360 3rd St, Tillamook,OR 97141.) Paul attended nearly every Tillamook RMEF banquet. No services will be held and the family will hold a private gathering at a later date.
