The Garibaldi Fire Department got off to a hot start Sunday in the Garibaldi Days softball battle at Garibaldi Grade School.
The hosts jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead after two innings then withstood a late rally by the Coast Guard for a 28-8 win.
The victory balanced out the Garibaldi Days rivalry over the weekend after the Coast Guard won the waterball title Saturday in front of the Irish Mooring Cafe.
In the first inning, the Fire Department scored six runs.
They added five more in the bottom of the second inning for the big start.
The Coast Guard got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the third inning, cutting the lead to 11-1.
But in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Fire Department added another seven runs to hold an 18-1 lead.
The Coast Guard team came back with seven runs in the last five trips to the plate,
But the Fire Department added 10 runs in the last four at bats to cruise to the softball victory over the Coast Guard.
