Donald P. Acker, 91, passed away February 5, 2015 at his Seaside residence. Born November 16, 1923 in Oakland, California, Don moved to Oregon in 1936, graduated from Corvallis High School, studied forestry at Oregon State and University of Idaho, and worked in the Yukon one summer before active Navy service on the U.S.S. Black during World War II. Don’s career was in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster and manager.
Don and his first wife bought a Manzanita vacation home in 1965, and he continued to own vacation homes in the area. In 1984 he and his third wife,
Mariglee, retired to Neahkahnie, his fifth home in the area. Don was an active community member, serving as a SMART program reader, Neahkahnie Community Club officer, Neahkahnie Water District board member, and a founding member and President of the Nehalem Valley Historical Society.
Don was predeceased by wives, Doreen in 1966, and Mariglee in 1999. He is survived by sons, Richard and David; daughter-in-law, Susan; adopted son, John; adopted daughter, Tamara; 2 stepsons, a step-daughter, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
