Manzanita Music Festival 2017, gearing up for a good summer

The Sextones

In it’s 2nd year, the Manzanita Music Festival (MMF) was created to celebrate the power of music- to shelter, heal and connect all generations in our communities, and to welcome visitors to the beautiful Oregon Coast.  Last year, the festival showcased  incredibly talented local, regional, and nationally acclaimed artists performing Americana, Blues, Country, Reggae, Jazz, and more.  Beth Carter Boyer, Executive Director, and the planning staff have been hard at work putting together another great festival, and have some exciting new developments for the festival that we want you to know about.

MMF is very excited to have Fulcrum Community Resources, a local 501c3 organization acting as their fiscal sponsor.  This means donations to the Manzanita Music Festival can be tax deductible. For more information about Fulcrum, go to their website at  fulcrumresources.org.

Another big development,  MMF will be expanding to a 3 day event this year.  The festival kicks off  Friday, July 21 at The Rex Champ Field in Nehalem, partnering again with North Coast Recreation District (NCRD).  Gates open at 5pm.  NCRD and MMF will be upgrading the ballpark for the festival, youth sports and future community events. Entry to the evening concerts will be a ticketed event.   Food, beer, wine and other beverages will be available at the field.

Day 2, Sat, July 22, the festival continues in downtown Manzanita, partnering with Lostrom & Company Real Estate, to bring attendees another amazing event.  There will be a main stage featuring a fun, eclectic variety of musical performances, vendor booths and exciting children’s activities. The downtown festivities begins at noon till 5pm.

A favorite of last year’s festival was the “Kid’s Zone” which included a smaller acoustic stage for performers, and  activities hosted by NCRD.   A new activity this year in the Kids Zone will be to feature musicians and artists to demonstrate and showcase their art..  This is the 1st step in helping MMF fulfill their mission/goals of putting music and art in the hearts and hands of children.

Then the fun continues on Saturday in Nehalem, for the evening concert with gates opening at 5 p.m. Of course, a delightful evening with very special guests will be there to entertain.  Bring your lawn chair, blanket and dancing boots!  Stay tuned for more details about the evening concerts at Rex Champ Field..

Day 3, Sun, July 23, the festival fun starts again in downtown Manzanita with more excellent  music. Kids Zone, food and beverage.  Music starts at noon till 5 p.m.

Also, Sat, April 8, a fundraiser for MMF will be held at the newly renovated theatre/performing arts space at NCRD in Nehalem.  Kate and the Crocodiles- a trio featuring a refreshing and classically-trained female vocalist; a colorful, energetic, and soulful keyboardist; and the intuitive trumpeter of Pink Martini, (Gavin Bondy).  The trio performing stunning originals and re-conceptions of music from Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Nat Cole, Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong, Pat Benetar, and more are sure to delight the audience.   The event starts at 6 p.m. with concert beginning at 7 p.m.  There will be a silent auction and a cash bar serving wine/beer with complimentary hor d’oeuvres.  Ticket price is $15pp and can be purchased at the door or at manzanitamusicfestival.org. (MMF website)

Manzanita Music Festival is soliciting businesses wanting to get involved in their mission by sponsorship or to sponsor a band.  Your donation is tax deductible and helps a fun community event  thrive for years to come.  MMF is also looking for food vendors who want to participate.  Contact MMF for more information at  manzanitamusicfestival@gmail.com
