No bike, no board, no problem. Bahama Mama’s, the new shop in Manzanita, offers gear and rentals for a multitude of beach and water activities.

Situated at the end of Laneda and conveniently located next to the beach, the new shop has been open off-and-on since mid-April, according to Joel VanDyke, owner.
“Isn’t it everyone’s dream to have a beach shop,” VanDyke asked, “this is the most fun I’ve ever had.”
His sense of fun cascades into the atmosphere of his shop, offering nearly every conceivable item somebody would want at the beach, ranging from footballs and boogie boards to sun block and soda pop.
As for the name, Bahama Mama’s, VanDyke said, “I wanted a fun name, a beachy name,” adding that the name might invoke a more tropical feel, “Why can’t we live like that? We’re here on the beach, aren’t we? People don’t want to come to a boring place.”
Among the items he offers to rent are the popular fleet of “Fun Cycles,” wide three-wheeled yellow tricycles.
“Lots of people are excited about the bikes coming back from Manzanita Bikes and Boards,” he said, having acquired the rentals.
“The biggest issue is fixing them up. It was usually done during winter, but I didn’t get them until spring,” he said. “Next winter I’ll get them all dolled up.”
He said he offers the Fun Cycles at an hourly rate. 24 hour packages are available for fat tire beach cruiser bikes and surfboards. There is also a package that includes a wetsuit, gloves and all necessary gear to surf in the Pacific Northwest.
Clothing options include an exclusive deal with Quiksilver and Roxy, he said.
VanDyke is especially excited for the busiest day of the year in Manzanita: July 4.
“I’m looking forward to how busy it will get,” he said, “I’ve been told it gets unreal busy. All the times that have been super busy, I’ve been having a blast.”
Bahama Mama’s is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 123 Laneda Avenue in Manzanita. For more information, call 503-368-BIKE.
