Junior Livestock Auction Committee and KTIL are pleased to announce a new opportunity for 4-H and FFA swine members. KTIL will pay a member $250 dollars to purchase and raise a market hog. KTIL will get feed donated to feed this market project.
Participants will need to bring the hog to the Tillamook County Fair and show it in the appropriate 4-H or FFA class. This animal will not go through the Junior Livestock Auction. It would need to be shown as a non-auction market animal or as a gilt ( it may be used as a back-up animal two market hogs are raise). After fair this animal will be returned back to KTIL where they will raffle off the meat.
This is a great opportunity to educate the public about what it takes to raise an animal for the food supply. Participants will be responsible for checking in and sharing information with the OSU Extension office and/or KTIL. This is not open to first time swine members. You must have raised a successful market hog project in the past. Applications will be reviewed by Extension Staff and JLAC Members.
Applications available on the Tillamook OSU Extension website or at the Extension Office. Application are due Feb. 10, either in person or email.
